My ship has complicated wiring.
The system is well documented but identifying cables is a pain. I use appropriately sized colour coded clip on tags
BUT
They come with a printed number which makes them bulky. The colour code is sufficient.
Is there such an ident system with, say, a crimp-on-able coloured tag with the standard colour code without the encumbrance of the body beefed up to take the number?
Shrink on sleeves would work but they need to fit over the bootlace tags.

I've purchased a NIIMBOT smart label printer (D110) for use during my rewire. They do a variety of labels including one that wraps round a cable. They seem to be robust, but it is early days as to how long the print lasts.

Or use white insulating tape and an indelible.pen and just write on the tape.

Maybe not as a neat as a dedicated printer but a lot cheaper.

I have an old Brother label machine and combined the labels with cable ties that have a label space. I have used permeant marker on these cable ties int eh past, but prefer the brother labels.

Cable tie labels (Amazon)

Each cable gets a tag so I and (hopefully) others can quickly workout which cable does what, they get labels at each end of mystery routes / runs behind panels / covers etc. too - That's probably the biggest help! day to day.
