Want to replace my old fitted lights with some that look a bit better / modern. I have checked a couple of caravanning websites which have possibilities but just want to see if anyone has a better idea?

Thanks

IKEA - 3 for a tenner or so. 12v Halogen 10w round kitchen type. Throw away the transformer !!! but double check output side is 12v.

If they are the round brass bezel ones that have corroded, give them a light sanding and repaint with hammerite cream - good as new - change bulbs for the LCD ones If you must

I imagine that most chandlers will stock them... the online ones definitely do. I got mine from Marinestore, but that was 'cos I only wanted simple ones and they were the cheapest, only £7 each.

I didn't suggest a mail order swindlery expecting a barrage of abuse, but I look through the catalogues (ah, sorry, old-fashioned things, like books with pictures) then shop around. I keep going back to TCS in Southend, but there are many with a more sophisticated selection.

I do exactly the same thing, and then go and check on the net

Have been searching around myself recently - online I've bookmarked

2. Boatelectricals - good value stainless dome lights & berth lights
Boat Electricals

3. Marine Megastore - Good range of EC Smith lights

4. GS Controls - cheapest stainless dome lights on the web but £30 min order value

5. VWP - cheapest baby dome lights for heads, lockers etc

Just ordered 5 halgen cabin lights from GS Controls and a long looked for bulb holder for a nav light from Vehicle Wiring. Super price from GS Controls on the web and fantastic service over the fone ordering a 4 quid bulb holder from V/Wiring

Thanks Nick!

Has it been in a long time? Halogens have the reputation of being v sensitive to over/under voltage. I wonder if that has/hasn't been your experience. I have put leds in for general lighting plus a flourescent overhead but I have a couple of places whe a halogen would be great.

I have just recieved the 5 halogen reading lights I ordered from GS Controls after reading 'Raedwald's post elsewhere on this thread.

They are really nice, compact stainless steel with a switch and swivel and £14 each. I bought 5.

I was looking at breaking up some Ikea 12v spots but quite honestly at this price why bother!

Regards Nick
