Has anyone found a way to set the Raymarine C95 to not switch the radar on by default at power up? My first job on power up is to go through the menu to switch it off.

The radar is quite a heavy battery drain so dont need it on in local waters/good visibility.

I Know, I know, I know its a good safety backup system, but so is a charged battery ;-)

I have a similar issue with my C70. It always starts with the radar in Standby mode, which I think means the scanner is rotating but without transmitting. If I remember (rarely!) I switch it to off which appears to lock up the entire plotter for a minute or two ...

I haven't found a way to have it start up any other way.

The default setting is for radar to start in Standby - this means it's warmed up, but not rotating and not transmitting. I don't think you can change this default, so turning it off manually seems to be your only option.

I didn't get to the boat until yesterday (i.e. well after this thread 'ended', so apologies) to check out the ease of turning the magnetron off fully.

I have a C80/2kW radome combo and it starts as expected with the radar in standby - the scanner icon displays top right not rotating and not greyed out. I thought I'd check how easily the radar could be turned off completely. A quick press of the power button brings up the radar options (as I think is intended). A press of the STANDBY ON/OFF button causes the scanner icon to grey out. So far so good. But, within seconds the the icon goes solid again. This isn't as it should be is it?
(N.B. This post is largely out of curiosity because the C80 is used on, maybe, 1 trip in 10).

Any thoughts welcome.
Cheers
Bob

The new Raymarine radars have separate power cable so I have a separate power switch for the radar.

On the other hand, they're also solid state radars so don't have a magnetron heater and presumably draw no significant power anyway when not scanning :)
