I’m like a coiled spring - have bought a new boat that I haven’t seen because lockdown hit the day I was to collect it. So I’ve been researching and buying small items constantly to try make up for it!

So, the game is: what is the single best thing you’ve ever bought for your boating life?

It could be small, like a powerful torch or windex, or larger like an Ultra anchor. I think we had better exclude new engines or boats themselves!

I am not sure it was the best thing I got for the boat but it was the one that gave me a silly sense of pleasure and wonderment everytime I used it. Not sure the name for it but I called it the magic mooring hook, example below but not the one I had.

The Monitor windvane is probably my choice.

Sorry, hadn't noticed this was the Motor Boat forum. ?

small thing:
Fein multitool,

major thing:
Hydraulic hi-lo platform, and Electric zero speed fin stabs (can't make a choice which is more important )

Wedding ring , been first mate for 30 years and 9 boats. But 5 weeks at home is like being on the hard if you are a boat.

I thought i was unlucky picked up my new to me boat mid December, loads of jobs to finish.

As for best thing, a Milwaukee compact cordless polisher, light weight and small enough to use in most areas of the boat.

A piece of 600mm x 400mm plastic mirror just slide it up side of the engines to check things so easy

Frigomar DC brushless motor aircon . Cantral
Quiet , almost silent , efficient, low power consumption = doesn’t wake you up or trip shore power , or need a big geny ( @ anchor ) dead weight , manages to chuck out 42K BTU from a tiny 400 cc yanmar 3.5 geny that weighs 95 kg .Heats the boat with its reverse function when it’s chilly ....again silently.

Eg in the stern cabin
The central chiller unit is under one bunk and the cabin chiller under the other bunk occupiers never know.

loverly piece of kit for extended Med boating particularly with a “ cave “ design living accommodation of a sports cruiser , cold air stays low .

Bravo electric tender inflator, no more strapping an ugly “fender” to my swim platform or will I overbalance using the foot pump and take a dipping ?
