The CRT head of fundraising, Ruth Ruderham, plans to raise £986,759 in the first financial year (to end 31 March 2013) at a cost of £1.7m. The fundraising programme won’t break even until the fourth year.
The main thrust of individual giving will be the launch of a "Friends of the River & Canal Trust". Another scheme has 50 waterway improvement projects in various areas to which the public can make a specific donation of £3 by texting a word to a specific number.

We weren’t given a list, but it appears planting trees has a high priority, with such things as structures and boats at the low end, apparently the result of consulting focus groups. One wonders if there was anyone actually with a knowledge of waterways in these groups?

Perhaps our friends at Thames Water will be enthusiastic contributors, if perhaps one of the 50 projects is water-based.

I had to give a wry grin when walking the dogs at Sonning on Saturday and saw the attached: sorry for such a small pic off my phone.....the logo on the floating bottle is............
