C-Map Max versus Navionics Gold/Platinum

Had C-Map from 2002 working under Max-Sea on my laptop (and still have it as a back up) and now use Navionics Gold which came with my Raymarine C70. DOn't see mach difference and if I would have to chose a new plotter, charts would not be a creteria for me.

I have been looking at a few of these charts prior to purchasing for next year.

Its true that there does'nt seem to be much difference in the charts themselves - but there are big differences in the coverage (and ergo the value for money). The best seems to be Nauticpath bit this does not appear (may be wrong??) to come as a CD for use on a laptop - be interested to hear if this is not the case. To get the whole of Western Europe in workable detail for about 100 quid seems a bit of a bargain compared to the £400 I spent on only west coast charts this summer.

Coverage certainly important. We use Navionics Gold with a C70 - we have the UK / Ireland and Northern France chart (£190), and have just been quoted £685 to get all the other charts we need to sail to Australia (only 4 more cartridges) - this seems quite good value to me - not sure how many other charting systems would only need 5 cartridges to cover 50% of the world?

On my Lowrance 3500 plotter, I use the Nauticpath chart covering the coasts from Norway to Gibraltar, including the UK and Ireland. It comes on a SD chip similar to those used in cameras. Coverage is reasonable but not detailed. There is also a file which gives tidal heights and currents supposedly in real time ie at clock time. However I believe this does not take into account the time zone. For example the times of HW and slack water are not in 'clock time' for France at UT+1. There is the ability to change local time but this does not affect the times of HW and slack water. This is not a function of the chart software. A similar problem was reported recently in the sailing magazines for another make of plotter.
