I have c-map nt+ card circa 2003 running it on a Raymarine unit, I am surprised I lose the detail, when I try to zoom down below 1/2 mile, is that normal?
Cheers
Try looking in the plotter's setup.
You can select what you see at each level of zoom.
Probably just a matter of setting what you want to see at the 1/2 mile zoom level.
Thanks Guys
I just been down the boat, its seems wherever I go on the chart there is no detail below 1/2 mile, The Raymarine unit is a 530, repeated on the fly with a RL730plus, I have been though the menu, doesn't seem to be an option on zoom detail?
FWIW, I used a brand new C Map NT+ cartridge to navigate the Costa Brava last year. At some scales much detail was missing including the new entrance to Barcelona harbour which is a bit fundamental. I know a lot of people use electronic charts as their only or primary means of navigation. This is a mistake IMHO and good quality large scale paper charts are still essential
I assume it's the chart you bought from me. I used it on a Raymarine RL80CRC plus, and could get good detail down to 1/16 mile in main boating areas, even could see the individual pontoon I was on.
If you regsiter your plotter on the Raymarine web site, you can ask questions by phone or e-mail, so that may be worth a go. I think it must be a setting somewhere on the plotter?
Does it produce across hatch pattern? If so it is because it has gone as far as you can go for detail. Zooming closer is just "magnifying" the existing detail, if that makes sense?
There is an option in setup to allow you you to overide this and keep zooming.
Plotter Mode is enabled or disabled as follows:
1. Press the MENU key.
2. Select the CHART SETUP soft key.
3. Scroll down to PLOTTER MODE in the chart setup menu.
4. Select the OFF or ON soft key to enable or disable the setting.
Thanks for the advice guys, I will try the plotter options tomorrow.
One thing for sure its not the C-map, I took the card to Mairinesuperstore and tried in a Standard Horizon, it worked a treat.
Working in a new plotter was the next stage for me. I then found it was incompatibility between the software level of my chart plotter and that of the new C-map chart. If the plotter's software isn't developed to keep up with the chart's software, problems occur.
I hope for your pocket's sake it isn't this problem - but it was mine last last year, and I reported the whole affair in MBY in the Our Boats section. My Simrad plotter now needs changing out or I keep using old charts.
It works...............
Just as suggested, it was in the settings all the time, only Raymarine can make a chart plotter you have to switch off plotter mode to get zoomed in chart detail.
very happy, thanks to all. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Remember as I said you are not getting any more detail but the same information just magnified. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I dont think thats necessarily the case.
The whole point about vector charts is that the information stored on the card is "intelegant" - that is you decide what you want to see so as you zoom you can actually get more detail.
Correct, but when you reach the point where you have reached the most detail, it will then only be magnifying. That is why the option is there in the chartplotter. It is a feature to stop you thinking you have more detail on the cartridge than you really have. Of course you can override it as I explained before.
The older C-Map cartridges were only typically 4mb and 8mb in capacity, whilst the newer ones are of course of much higher capacity and so cover larger areas and with much more information.
