So I need a C Map Max chart chip SD or micro SD format.

Can I use NT or is this different.

I assume I can't use anything such as 4D, DO, D, R, RX or RX

Thanks for those that understand the ridiculous product descriptions these charts offer.

My plotter requires a C Map Max, not 4D, DO, D, R, RX, nor RX - this is from the CMAP website

But what I cannot understand is can I use NT if I need SD card format

Can I use Max N+

The C Map site does not make this clear, it just says Max but does not mention anywhere sub-formats such as Max N+

As far as I know the actual map format is standard on CMAP, the various marketing stuff is just what chart areas and layers you get. Obviously SD vs old cards is a required decision. The modern ones are all micro-SD which fits in normal SD with a converter.

If you can find one to test try it, you won't harm the plotter or chart by giving it a go.

The difference between Max and MaxN+ is the range of features, the latter having more and being more expensive. The format it comes in - that is card type depends on your plotter.

I f you have a card already take it to one of the dealers such as Marine Superstore and they will explain the options (coverage and features) on charts and get your card updated at a discount from new price. That is how I did mine through Force 4.

Matsutec HP-1228A. Cmap website says Cmap Max, but does not explain if that includes Max N+.

This is for a new set so I don't have one to try. I have asked the suppliers if Navionics will work instead of CMAP..

That depends on whether their software can handle the extra features which are mainly enhancement of the underwater information aimed primarily at fishermen - and indeed whether you value those extra features. You get similar choices with Navionics and Garmin and I find that the basic level has far more than I will ever need.

Navionics have no mention of your plotter make or model in their compatibility table, so I'd assume no compatibility.

C-Map compatibility checker says C-Map Max only, as you also alluded to 22. Jan. 2019:

For the plotter to show anything sensible you will either need K charts (I have tried the Onwa K charts but they would not work) or a CMAP Chart card in the SD card format.

A sort of comparison: C-Map Charts & The Difference

At any time however, chart suppliers update, change, add new or remove 'old' products, so maybe some are not available anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if the takeover by Brunswick brought a portfolio cleanup at C-Map.
