I have the opportunity to buy a 26' mahogany on oak motor boat hull.
All seems sound but with the obvious wear and tear of a 1955 boat.
Does anyone have any knowledge or opinions on this builder.
Any help would be appreciated.

I assume this is the Lavis Yard in Exmouth, As far as I can recall they were certainly still building in recent years, albeit very limited. They have built some well voyaged sailing vessels over the decades including, if I remember, a sister ship to Lively Lady may years ago. If the vessel is still afloat and in one piece that must say something, just get a survey for decay and other time associated priblems.

An excellent traditional builder. The yard has been in the present owners family for generations where each generation has learnt their craft from their fathers and uncles. They originally built oceon going schooners on the beach where the yard now is. They don't get much traditional building work now, but a few years ago another local retired boatbuilder, yacht designer and surveyer, entrusted Lavis to build his dream retirement yacht. That's a recommendation by one traditional builder of another. If there's a problem with your prospective boat, it won't be due to the building.
