Forgive me if I posted this in the wrong place. Okay I have a Yanmar 3gm that will not start. Have 12v on both batteries. Turning the key I get nothing other then a mechanical click from the key turning. No lights on the board, no alarm ringing, nothing. When I put a meter to the 2 studs on the key switch I get 12v (OFF) turning key to normal on I get nothing.
I’m new to boating and live on the boat. Currently stuck in a marina.
Any advice from similar issues would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming that your meter is accurate, 12V is a little low. I'd start by getting a battery charger on them, but also remove and clean the terminal connectors to eliminate the next most likely cause.

Find the starter solenoid and run a wire direct from the battery pos terminal to the small spade terminal.

The solenoid should engage and the engine should crank.

If it does, the fault will lie between the ignition switch/start button and wiring.

Good luck

As noted already regarding battery voltage, then as a second route, check and clean the terminals between starter and the switch itself, on many Yanmar (all makes?) boat engine installations, it's quite a long and lightweight cable run between the starter motor and the starter switch - is it near the back of the cockpit? - so you get insufficient power through it to energise the starter motor; a regular symptom of the problem is that you press the starter button and get nothing other than a 'click' - sound familiar?
A well charged battery and clean/dry connections help, but the long term resolution is to install a relay into the circuit, so that the power from battery to starter routes through a shorter/heavier cable and only sufficient power to operate the relay needs to track all the way to the start button and back again. It's an hour's job and £10's worth of bits to make the fix.

Post 3 is the first thing to try, short the positive terminal to the spade with the white wire. If that works them check the loom plugs first.

Have a battery charger on it now it did go up to 12.6 so going to let that cook overnight. And start again in the a.m. thanks for all the troubleshooting tips haven’t got to most of them, took the afternoon to walk and get a charger. But will check back in.
