I have just replaced my fuel decanter with a c.a.v type water separator, reading some old posts on here some suggest that the arrows on the head are the wrong way round, is there any truth in that? I just connected the in to the in arrow and the out to the out arrow.

It seems illogical, but the bowl is after the filter.
The water is supposed to pass through the filter before collecting in the bowl.
The bowl is supposed to be full of clean fuel, not dirt.
It works.
I can't see why it wouldn't work the other way, unless the paper element couldn't resist pressure the wrong way?

Direction depends on whether you want filtration or agglomeration or both. Agglomeration (usually the pre-filter) passes the fuel through the filter element and this binds any water into large drops that fall into the large bowl for draining. For filtration the fuel enters down the middle and then upwards through the filter element. This filter can also have a bowl to allow draining if required. That's how I remember it!
