Hello:

Doe anybody know if you can supply GPS data to the Raymarine C-80 by using the NMEA input or does it need to be on the seatalk bus?

Thanks

you can supply gps via nmea. if you do not have a manual you can get one from raymarine retired manuals. it tells you in their how to do it. you need the lead though that goes into the back of the c80. if you dont have one they are not easy to come by. i had to buy one from america

I agree with all of that as I've converted my C80 Classic from GPS over Seatalk to GPS over NMEA, in my case 38,400 NMEA but it could have been 4,800 if I didn't have AIS going into the same port. Luckily I already had the Raymarine cable part R08004 as they are now difficult to get hold of and it would be a very delicate job to solder directly onto 4 of the 5 terminals in the NMEA port.

I just did an eBay search for that R08004 and the prices are ridiculous. :(

I do have the NMEA cable available, so it should not be too difficult to do the connection.
Thanks to everyone for your help.

Thats good because as Richard says, the price for the cable is silly. If you want AIS on the c80 as well you will have to have a multiplexor as the c80 only has one input. I bought a YAKMUX one which is quite cheap and it works fine. If you dont want AIS ignore what i have said:)

I use an Evermore SC 320 RS 232 GPS connected to my C80 via NMEA (it needs a separate 12 volt supply)

Lots of confusing information on the internet about how to wire the Evermore up
My unit came with the following wires

Red VCC power (+12V)
Black Ground (-12V)
White Rx, input signal
Green Tx, Output signal
Blue Not used
Screen Not used Shield wire, signal ground

The NMEA wiring details are as follows

C80 Green NMEA Input (-ve) to Evermore White RS-232 Data – (Tx-) Input
C80 White NMEA Input (+ve) to Evermore Green RS-232 Data + (Rx+) Output
