The thread on the fuel inlet of my secondary fuel housing has gone allowing a small amount of fuel to escape from the connection. The engine failed to start.

I am in remote Indonesia. A local guy has re-tapped the thread but it is still leaking although it is running again.

I need to travel 300 miles, mostly motoring as there is little wind, to the next place I might get it fixed.

If the engine stops again on this passage what is the risk of bypassing this secondary, engine housing, filter entirely and relying solely on the 10 micron primary Racor filter? I presume the secondary filter is 2mm. The engine is a standard Beta 75 not turbo charged.

Thanks for your comments.

The tank has recently been cleaned and the fuel is always filtered as it is poured into the tank.

I would think that if your primary filter is 10 microns, you've nothing to worry about. I think my primary is 30, and the secondary (engine) filter is 10. But, can you not get a seal with the damaged thread, with maybe PTFE tape or even some paint or similar? (I see from the photo that you've tried something).

If you can get your guy to drill and put an oversize thread in the filter housing then turn an adaptor to match with a correct thread for the pipe fitting that will resolve the problem permanently. If not then it's buy as much PTFE and gasket sealant as you can and keep your fingers crossed. Have you tried a soft compressible washer if there is enough bite in the threads?
The worst that could happen is that the injectors get fouled.
