Hi having bought my first boat this year a Maxum 1800 MX I am now on the look out for some toys for next year.

There seem plenty of donuts al shapes and sizes out there are there any recommendations...

There seem to be two main shapes round and triangular is there any usability difference??

My requirements are for probably two of them for kids and adults.

Thanks

yes, and many of them charge quite alot if you do want them included.
Jobe is a trusted name. For kids, you want something stable.
You dont need to go fast, just swing them towards/into your boats wake. Just bear in mind the passenger has no control, so the boat driver is fully responsible for safety.Knees into teeth, faces and neck injuries are the possible attractions, so take it easy. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

No problem with Jobe.
As said earlier be very careful, especially with smaller children , heads get banged when they ride together which is more often than not what they prefer.
The best piece of kit that we got is a quick release mechanism, which I am sure we purchased from a US website and made by Jobe that allows the rider to pull on a cord and disconnect themselves and the inflatable from the tow rope, it attaches to the standard T shaped connector, really gives peace of mind to the riders.

If you really want to test something, try the air chair.
Mind, you must beat this for a proper test.

Wow! That was amazing!

I never had much luck with the airchair...

That new one is nice and shiny, the old one I used to use was black.

Re: air chair

Well, who am I to convince Nick otherwise?... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Btw, unlike serious slalom waterski, it doesn't require a lot of power: a 20hp tender is more than enough.
Just a small warning though (also for others who found it interesting): it's actually much trickier than it seems in the clip.
By moving chest just a few inches back or forward you get sudden changes of riding asset, very difficult to control at the beginning.
A video camera in the towboat is a must - some funny clips of bad nose-diving are guaranteed!

Wow the chair looks great but slightly out of my league at least for my first go!!

Thanks for the tip about the insurance cover, I have checked this are we are covered.

Has anyone got any views about circular vs triangular 'donuts'

First one we had was triangular, fell apart before the first season was up, second one is circular and has so far lasted 5.. or maybe 6 seasons of pretty hefty abuse! not saying triangular ones are worse generally, we just probably but a rubbish one in the first place!!

I don't actually recall the experience being any different between the shapes, they both skim across the water and threw the rider out from time to time!

The one we have at the moment is an "O'Brien Le Tube" about £100 when I got it, nothing fancy, just well built, handles in the right place and lots of smiles from using it, may even have some good pics/video somewhere.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: air chair

Great, so we can tow it using 3.5m 30-40hp tenders then.

The towline seems to be attached very high on the towboat in all of the Youtube videos. Do you know if that's important?
