Buying New ?

I am 58 years old and am fairly certain I have never bought any single item new over approx £3,000. Cars, Houses, Boats, Caravans etc always been second hand.

I am seriously thinking of splashing out between £30 and £ 40K on a new boat. I mean actually parting with the cash not buying on some sort of Never Never which is also something I have never done (Except a mortgage for a house).

With regard to boats do people on here think that going new at this price point is wise. ????

Yep, if its the right boat for you at a price you are happy to pay, then go for it.

Life is short, who knows what will happen tomorrow

Buying a new boat is always a bit of "should I shouldn't I", There is always going to be depreciation from new, but the feeling you get when you sign on the dotted line, soon makes that doubt a memory.
My boat before the one i have now I bought brand new, £38k and it was great. I say go for it and enjoy it!

58 is a good age, with average luck you should be fit enough to really enjoy boating for another 10 to 15 years or more. If you have an eye on boat you really want and can afford it, I would go for it, it would be cheaper to go used but, as julians has said, life is short. The only caveat is dealing with builders, I might try and source something that is actually built and maybe lightly used or a demo model.

I have some disposable cash but there are no new boats that would be an improvement on what I already have so I soldier on.

So I have gone for a new boat am I m a similar age to you and have just retired this week ???? - For me the boat I wanted was not available 2nd hand as it’s a new design, I did look at seconded hand similar boats like the Axopar, but they just did not tick my box’s, financially there will always be the depreciation to factor in but to counter that the new prices have gone up and seem like they will keep going up ?. Will be interesting to see how its value holds out as apparently new orders now are for 2023 delivery

Congrats on your early retirement........I did the same seven years ago, when I was 61....I can highly recommend it!! ??
 
Out of all the boats I have bought and sold over the years, (8 of them), the one we bought new was the most trouble during the buying process and was the only one to lose serious money when sold on.
Also every possible minor knock and scrape was a major incident and worry which did not occur with the used boats.
Vowed never to buy new again.

Up until now that has always been my view as well. Not sure I have changed it much :(

I had a feeling that the amount you were spending on a brand new toy would be absolutely fine. :)
