Does anyone have experience of buying in the USA? I am still looking for a suitable boat (38 to 42 ft long keel) and notice that the choice in USA is much greater than the UK. Also the prices appear to be considerably less!

If we were to buy in America we would go next year then sail 'that end' before making our way back towards UK a year later (then importing the boat as a private import................no VAT :) ).

questions.............

Would we have to pay sales tax in USA?

Would we have similar legal protection regarding the purchase?

Would the USA immigration allow us to sail around the American coast as non residents?

I would much appreciate any advice, especially from someone who has already done this.

Many thanks

Chocks....

Oh and by the way I really like the Tayana 37, any other idea's?

loads of posts on this, especially in mobochat. If importing into the UK, you will have to pay vat at time of import. If importing into the UK, you also need to be aware of the rules on CE marking.
