Has anyone managed to find somewhere to buy flares without a canister. We have more yellow canisters than we can ever use but cannot source any flares that are cheaper buying them individually. Anyone cracked this conundrum ??

Macsalvors in Cornwall usually sell flares loose cheaper than in canister packs, though it's two years since I've replaced mine.

Force 4 in Lymington also sell loose flares - I bought some red rockets and orange smoke there myself a couple of weeks back. They had them in stock. I didn't try checking the price against a complete set as like you Rossyrassy I'm all over yellow canisters and didn't need to replace the whole set of flares.

Like many of us I keep my flare pack up to date but I wonder how long it will be before the laser (or other yet to be invented) replacements get good enough to do away with them. They are a dreadful price, a hassle to transport, keep on time expiring, hard to dispose of away from home, etc etc.

Thanks- we will be in lymington this week so will check them out. Like you cant wait for a better solution to be invented as they are a complete pain to keep up to date.

YES.

I make my own. NOT as silly or dangerous as you think.

I bought very detailed instructions from www.newboatgear.co.uk and now I can make better white and red handheld flares than purchased ones.

30 pence a go.

I still buy paras and mini rockets though.
