I also bought an ex-charter boat. Well 'loved' would be one way to describe her. She was cheap as chips and the survey showed nothing seriously wrong. Just completed our first weeks holiday on her after a minor going over in April and I'm very happy.

Everything functions but cosmetically she could do with some TLC.

Basically she was getting to the point where she couldn't compete with the newer boats in terms of appeal or condition so the charter company dumped her.

hi am thinking of buying an exsunsail beneteau cyclades 43..have more or less weighed up most of the pros and cons, but wondering about the actual sailing qualities of the cycllades range. some people are telling me they are a load of junk.! any one with comments about experiance with them would be greatly appreceated, ty

we have been involved in helping owners of ex sunsail boats get them to their desired condition.

Remember that GRP is just about infinately repairable. Major damage repairs will be picked up in survey, and if they are not, who cares they ever happened.

Internal cosmetics are evident, and can be fixed or ignored, depending on your point of view.

A thing to consider is the minor dinks. Get a scratch and you sand it out, then polish. On a charter boat this happens a lot. So there will be many areas where the gelcoat looks fine but is very thin. So a small scratch that you put on becomes a gelcoat repair rather than a polish out job.

All the owners we came across were delighted with the end result given the total price paid after cosmetic repairs.
