Hi Everyone,

I am looking at buying a Dutch Steel Cruiser and finding it difficult to get a handle on the reputation and build quality of the various yards. Linsenn obviously seem top end with various below. In particular does anyone have any thoughts on Blauwe Hand built by the Holterman yard in Meppel. Seems long established and hopefully OK. Particular boat is 1995. Any insight greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Billy

My dad has a Vri Jon from the mid 90’s. It’s a very well built and finished boat. The fit-out is better than a lot of other Dutch steel boats I’ve seen.
As you are probably aware, corrosion and corrosion protection is very important. If the steel shell was well prepped and treated it should last very well. Check for signs of rust repair and rust in the bilges can be an issue. It’s all very fixable with a 4 inch grinder and a wire brush followed by a good rust treatment.
I’ve seen a bit of a shift away from steel recently as they seem to require a bit more maintenance
