Anybody bought chain from these people on ebay price seems very good and they look to sell a fair amount

I was tempted and then asked for the grade and it's grade 30 came the reply. I wanted grade 40! Still you pays your money ....

I believe that they are actually Grimsby Rigging Services based at Fishdocks in Grimsby. I dealt with them in 2010 by phoning directly and they were helpful and price was very good (especially for 18mm Octoplait). I don't think I bought via eBay and they supplied some items not advertised there.

Everything was good quality and some items were extremely cheap (10mm chain hook £7.14, identical to chandlery ones at £12-£15)

I also I bought chain from a company called E.Y.E. Ltd several years ago. You could try calling them (http://www.eyecochain.com) as they were also very helpful and chain was a good price.
Just noticed that E.Y.E. have another web-site with prices http://www.boatgeardirect.co.uk

Just check the old invoice and address was:

Grimsby Rigging Services UK Ltd
Humber Bank South
Fish Docks
Grimsby
NE Lincs DN31 3SD

Could you trust that chain if it was holding you in a storm?
seems way to cheap!
i just bough some 7mm but its tested chain
surely can be trusted?

Just replaced my anchor chain bought from here.
Very good service and cheapest I could find. I'll let you know in a few years time if it was a good buy or not.

Just bought a telescopic boarding ladder from them and v. surprised at the cheap chain & rope prices, coupled with excellent service.

For benefit of others, this is what Securefixdirect had to say about their chain:

Hi Rob,

Thank you for your email, please see details we have below -

Grade 30
Weight Per Metre - 1.5KGS Approx

Unfortunately we dont have the breaking strain for this chain, i hope the above is helpful.

Kind Regards
Jason

So what do we think? I can get the chain I want (50m of 8mm) for under £100 from these guys. Half the price of BGD. Nearly a third the price of my 'local' chandlers (although I don't have to worry about delivery costs if I buy from them).

The price is certainly right, that's less than I paid to have the same length and wire size regalvanised. I suggest you ask them for a small sample to see whether the weld and galvanising look OK. If so I would go for it, although with your location presumably you may pay over the odds for transport?

Yes, Gaelforce are my 'local' chandlers but the same spec of chain would cost £250 from there- as opposed to £93 from Securefix. So even with palletised delivery I'm still saving money.
I think some other forumites have bought this cheap chain- anybody able to post pictures or comments on apparent quality?

Re: Securefix - I have been looking at this chain also - 30m 8mm short link is £56.73 + £14.73 delivery = £71.48 total!

Is one cheap Chinease chain going to be any worse than another not quite so cheap Chinease chain? I presume it would all be made on similar machinery (as per the youtube link in another thread). Has anyone got any experience of anchor chains actually breaking in general use?

I bought 60 metres of 8mm chain from SecureFix and, to my untrained eye, it looks exactly the same as any other 8mm chain. The welds all look good with a slight 'collar'. Galvanising looks fine but no idea how thick it is. At 28 foot we are at the lower end of the 8mm recommended boat size range so there should be plenty of spare 'strength'.

With such a huge range of diverse products I suspect that they may be another of the outfits that do not actually keep many (or any?) of the products actually in stock, but order them for direct shipment from manufacturers/other suppliers, taking a tiny margin. Nothing at all wrong with that if everything works as it should which seems to be the case according to reports so far.

I've bought stuff from UK Yacht Rigging - Grimsby - several times and been delighted with their service and helpfulness and the quality of products. Every order has been on time and 100% correct, I cannot say that for any other chandler I've dealt with!
I have bought 8mm anchor chain from them. To me it looks well made with neat consistent links and welds and the galvanising is fine so far but it's only 3 years old. I haven't strength tested it.
