Hi, I live in Turkey and have the chance to buy a boat flagged Austrian. I want to re-register the boat British. However, will the boat have to be VAT paid for me to visit EU ports? The boat is a 1985 year manufactured boat. Can anyone help please?

Not to visit, as long as it is for less than 6 Months (I believe)...., but if you plan to keep her in the EU, then VAT and CE certification will be required.

edit ...

Not sure about CE certificate for a 1985 vessel, but suspect it will be considered a new import int EU, so in this case will be required.

Thanks Divemaster1, I only intend to visit the Greek Islands in her. Do you or anyone have any experience of Greek Customs officials and their paperwork requirements.

If you are going to register as british, and the boat has valid VAT status at the moment, and providing the sale/transfer takes place in an EU port, then you should be able to maintain VAT status provided you are very careful with the paperwork
