Buying a vessel in Holland

Looking seriously at several yachts inthe Netherlands. Just so happens we have a Dutch friend who will be very useful to us but what do I need to be aware of and are there any issues that could affect my re sale?
It seems going in very low is expected, the tax paid remains an issue but import duties etc not sure of.

Haivng looked at boats in the UK, Holland and France we eventually bought from Italy through a Dutch broker so have experience of purchasing from a distance, the Dutch systems, VAT/duty and currency issues.
Because of that I can also offer help with exchanging £ for € at good rates through the contacts we gained in our transactions.

Hi,
I bought my current boat about six years ago in NL. Seemed very straightforward; one day return trip to inspect (very carefully),and take many photo's, a bit of negotiation on the phone ( I say a bit because by this stage with £1 buying almost E1.5 the broker had realised taht there was a lot of demand from the UK), pay your money making sure you get agood exchange rate, get a Bill of Sale or something similiar, and then return to sail the boat back.
I hav enever been challenged on lack of the original 20+ years old invoice when the boat was originally sold by Westerly to someone in Germany. When I come to sell I will be selling a british built boat, in the UK so I really don't believe that anyone is going to worry too much about paaperwork from 30 years previously. If it does cause a problem I can only console myself by saying it was circa £8k cheaper than buying in the UK !
So don't worry, just get on and do it - mind you my attitude may be different if I was spending £150k rather than £20k, but I woudl never spend that much on aboat anyway as I would be worried about using it!
