Hi all, newbie here looking for help and advice

i am taking my powerboat 1+2 and hope to get my ICC here in the UK. I have a property in murcia with aguilas as my local marina. I want to buy a boat in spain once I feel confident enough from my UK tuition. I would only use it close to shore for fishing, snorkelling, diving fun etc..

i understand that buying a spanish registered boat may be more difficult as i would need spanish licence and paperwork. My spanish is ok, but not good enough to take an exam. I believe if I buy a uk boat, this issue goes away as my uk licences on a uk boat would be ok. I have also heard it may be cheaper to buy a uk boat and transport it to spain as spanish prices are higher.

i would intend to keep the boat in spain, but it would be stored on a trailer at my house most of the time and in the water for maybe the 6 weeks a year when i am out in spain.

can anyone suggest the best approach for me given my circumstances ?

if my assumptions are incorrect please feel free to let me know. Also if there are other courses I should take, please let me know

It's a lot cheaper and simpler to buy a uk boat and keep it uk registered.

As long as you are not a spanish resident you wont have any problems.

I would also recommend doing your Powerboat courses out here in the sun! Serenity sailing in Torrevieja offer a good service.

+1
also dont forget your fishing licence

By far the cheapest option is mentioned above, plus you can buy a boat that may be unpopular (and undervalued) in UK waters and tow it out to Spain. Big bowriders are a great example of this.

Dont forget that if you are towing with a Spanish registered car you need to have a Spanish registered trailer.
