Hi,

I've been into my fishing for a few years now and the time has come to really consider buying my own boat.

I'm not looking to spend a load of money, between £2,500 and £3,000 on a approx 17ft dory type thing.

I'm aware that most of the money you give is for the engine however everything else I am a complete novice.

If anyone could send me in the direction of a second hand buyers guide and give me and pointers as theres always thing your not aware you need etc, that would be great!

Thanks Dave

http://www.worldseafishing.com is worth visiting.

It's run by a little hitler who hates any body suggesting things are down anyway other than his (his choice I suppose, he owns it), BUT it does have a good boat owning and boat angling section which may be more suited to what you have in mind.

One or two of the regulars on there will be very helpful and try and steer you towards getting the most on your budget.
Be aware that they will tell you how much you need to invest in safety and training as much as you do the boat and engine.

I would throughly recommend popping over there though. Some may be local to you and might be able to offer face to face advice.

I bought a 20 year old boat off Ebay for £1000 and spent £1800 on a 8 year old 25 hp Suzuki Outboard. The outboard is more important than the boat. Especialy if you are going out to sea.
