In need of some blocks fairly urgently, I phoned Yachtmail to check availability and delivery times. They had stock and reasonable delivery times and I consequently went on to order as part of the same conversation.

It turns out that they charged me the full undiscounted price, and not the price quoted on their website. When challenged the reason given was that they are dispatched from a different location when ordered online and apparently "loads of shops do this".......

I should add that I had checked local chandlerys, but none were carrying the stock and order times were out of my required timing.....

Well, If Yachtmail are listening, I shall know in future...... :(

Surely there must be some sort of paper trail for the order ?

If they charge more than advertised, it's a matter for Trading Standards.

But I agree, Yachtmail seem to be on the crossed-off list.

It looks like a drop shop. When you buy from them, from their stock, you pay their price, which reflects their capital, stocking and handling costs. When you order on line, they never see the goods, they are dispatched directly from the supplier, so there is no capital outlay and only and administration cost, hence the lower price online.

Doesn't look like a drop shop. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/uv?hl...ved=0ahUKEwiF85HW0q7TAhUBUlAKHb2RAiQQpx8IdDAK

Have used them many times, good prompt delivery and very keen prices.

Sorry Stork_III, a misunderstanding. It is a very real shop with real staff and real overheads. Online it may behave like a drop shop where it has agreements with suppliers giving more efficient distribution. From the OP: "they are dispatched from a different location when ordered online." Maybe they just have a warehouse somewhere else but that wouldn’t give them much saving.when compared to drop shopping. I am sure they are an excellent chandler competing in a modern market.
