The Maldon Little Ships Club annual cricket match is next Sunday on the Buxey sands. As a member I received an email about it.

The match is due to begin about 0800 on Sunday.

Looking at tne tidal prediction there should be a bit of sand poking above the briny and LW is about 0845.

Before I make a fool of myself, am I right in thinking the stumps will need to be pulled by 0930, as the Buxey slips below the waves?

Doesn't it seem a bit odd to hold the game on that date when another date could give you a much longer time to play, BBQ and socialise. Am I missing summut?

I will be going as I have promised my old mum a couple of nights away in any case, weather permitting!

Sunday 22nd would certainly (on predictions) have give a greater range - 0.3m perhaps. But you may be missing the important point that the cricket season will be over by then!:D

I'm glad to see that this event has been resuscitated after some time in abeyance.. We used to do it every year some 20 years ago when we were in the MLSC and had some memorable games. It got a bit tiresome when the owners of a dog seemed to think it was funny when their animal kept on running away with the ball. I managed to score some runs occasionally but always found bowling difficult since the pitch never seemed to take spin.

Lovely photos. Thank you. Sadly my crew actually mutinied and refused to slip the Marconi mooring at 04:00. Actual words used in reply to my 'all hands about ship to unmoor' can not be repeated here.

Nutmeg had to wait until said crew had breakfasted, showered etc and slipped at 10:00!!!'

This meant punching the tide all the way to West Mersea, squalls, cold and wet.

Can I court marshal my mum?

Maybe next year...
