Hi,

My gas has failed on the hob but the butane bottle is still pretty full.

The hob ignites but with low flames.

There's an old regulator which the supply flows through, its as old as the boat, circa 1970s and I think that's the issue. Its a Calor Gas Waller 766.

I've removed it but I'm wondering if I should change the brass gas pipe which connects from the regulator to the hob. I'm not convinced the pipe is in good health also!

If I go down this path is it within safety measures to replace it with a standard orange 8mm hose?

I don't want to be blowing up either the boat or myself for that matter.

All guidance greatly appreciated.

Copper? pipe ( Unlikely to be brass ) should be fine unless it is damaged. The orange hose should not be longer than is necessary from bottle to copper pipe.
Buy a new length of orange hose and two of the crimp on hose clamps, the ones with little ears that you crimp with a pair of carpenters pincers. Much better than worm drive hose clips.
That regulator is way past its use date, replace it.

Thank you! Sounds like a plan.

I think 10 years is the recommended life of a regulator. (BS 5482-3)
Marine regulators are available at higher cost but your insurance company or surveyor will appreciate it if you use one.
Marine regulators
If you can google the 'Boat Safety Scheme' you will find guidance for a good installation. Mandatory for inland boats but a good guide to correct practice on any boat.
