Burnham...

I have used the RCYC pontoon for a short stay having picked up one of mooring opposite over night, however that was on a quiet weekday rather than in the middle of boats being recovered from Sunday's racing.

Worth noting that if you draw much more than a metre, you can run aground trying to get onto the RCYC pontoon at spring low. I expect the Royal Burnham is similar. Rice and Cole's pontoon is currently out of action due to a large bit of it missing.

Don't forget North Fambridge, an hour or so up river too. Pleasant yacht club and a really nice pub. You can usually get on the pontoon there as long as it's not a busy weekend.

Thanks, Mountain Goat. I know Fambridge well, but have not been impressed by recent excursions to the Ferryboat Inn. If we are going to eat out I would prefer to be in Burnham. I do regret the disappearance of the Contented Sole. Expensive, but good for a treat. Its successor, The Soul (silly name) was never as good and didn't last long. I'm interested to see the comments about other good places to eat. I've always liked Burnham.

Morning Serin, how recent were your recent excursions to the Ferry Boat?

The food and service took a bit of a nose dive last year to the point where even we stopped eating there but it's greatly improved of late and recent meals in the last few weeks have even met with Jane's approval (and she's not easily pleased when it comes to eating out)

Last summer. I thought it was awful. But maybe I should try again. It's such a good location - pity if it doesn't live up to it. Thanks.

Yup, last summer it was awful! After three poor meals (we usually eat at the pub at least once a week) followed by an inedible one we withdrew our custom

There were changes made earlier this year, the menu gets some variety now and the quality is very good again. We have started patronising the place (and the staff :D) again

Could be worse; could be Swallowtail "never knowingly open" Restaurant and Bar.

Yup, we rarely bother with the Swallowtail on our visits to Burnham now. Too often shut without warning and I don't like feeling pressured to drink up and leave half way through the evening cos we're the only ones in and the staff want an early night

We're in Burnham Yacht Harbour, and it is a constant source of consternation that on a lovely summer evening, if we want a drink we have to walk into town because the marina "bar" is invariably closed.

Recommend the White Hart for food, stayed there last week and ate in the dining room, superb white bait, and an excellent steak, chap at the next table had the prawn starter, huge prawns, could have been a main course, we will go again.

Ah, whitebait! I can never resist it. I'm thinking of a little excursion to Burnham around 1st July. White Hart here we come (perhaps)

Well, Eating out over the weekend was as follows.....

Friday - Sgt Peppers (Burnham)- Good Service, reasonable food although I thought the Steaks were a little expensive, not much ambience although they are refurbishing. 3 noisy Birthday groups. We were treated to Happy Birthday 3 times :)

Saturday - Red Lion Chelmondiston - Excellent in every department, Service, Food and Ambience. Expensive but worth it.....

Sunday - Ferry Boat (NF) - Spoke to Bru - Enjoyable and Good Pub Grub ( and the Garden Ducks kept us amused :))

Thanks again for your input Guys
