I am not a "gun" bloke - too impractical, and as the previous poster said, may end up being taken off me.

Quite fancy getting a Cutlass though! - in all seriousness, I figure something mounted on a Bulkhead (ready for action?) of a boat would be claimable as being intended "for decoration purposes" rather than intentionaly held as an offensive weapon. Although a machete would perhaps be more dual use.

think about it, spark plug leads, take one off the engine when it is running, stick your finger up the boot and see if you need an earth or not!! in fact i'll bet that you'll get a shock from the tracking up the insulation. 20, 000 volts isnt all that choosy how it gets to earth!!

to get a shock you need to become part of the high voltage circuit , which is why a bird can sit on a power line and not get a shock . If you hold the spark plug while levitating a fair distance from anything that would conduct the spark , you won't feel it . But it's not easy to get that well insulated on a boat

Mate of mine, pub owner, saturday lunch time, so called wedding reception, really nice people id you know what i mean, bride has grown up son. as the "reception" gets towards closing time it gets noisier and the language gets worse. mate asks son to quieten down, son gets bolshie and jumps on table and makes like he is at a football match. mate ( who has just come from florida) gets out his personally imported pepper spray and gives sonny bay a blast, he goes down a snivelling snot dripping demoralised piece of [--word removed--], his girlfriend then decide to have her say, he gives her a blast, down she goes, mam decides to have a go so she gets some too. new hubby surprisingly enough decides discretion is better part of valour and calls for taxis and family grimm disappear to go and plague some one else!! very effective stuff!!

hey old man, do you think i'm thick? you know and i know that if you get hold of a spark plug lead that you are going to get a shock, no ifs buts or levitations. the point i am making is that if some one sets up a magneto, ignition coil system or cattle fence system that any body touching the wires will get a shock without having to worry about dedicated earths

Where's the 'old man ' come from ?

and in my trade you learn that you can safely hold high tension cables with no risk , you just need the right ' insulated ' boots . With the proper insulation you can easily hold a spark plug , but on a boat it's hard to get properly insulated , but the level of insulation in a pair of dry trainers will still reduce the level of the shock
