That looks like the most cumbersome piece of safety equipment I have seen. How does the wearer manage to see in front of himself, and it looks as if the bulkiness of the inflated sections will prevent him from either grabbing a safety line or climbing up a ladder. Does it also look as if the structure in front of his face is designed to channel breaking waves over his mouth ?

Not very bullet proof once inflated! One shot and it will deflate, with the weight of the body armour sinking the victim.

Thinking of ex-SWMBO, a bullet-proof lifejacket at least covers a few eventualities.

It's a solution to a non-existent problem. What's wrong with wearing a lifejacket over your body armour? As has been pointed out, the lifejacket isn't bullet proof anyway.
