I noticed that.. an ebay advert for about £300 had a pic that revealed the bosch partno., which I googled and found for about 1/4 of the ebay price...

any other examples of Bukh equivalents?
nb some of the starter motors advertised for DV10/20 are a mechanical fit for both, but risk a short circuit to the solenoid 12V when removing the oil filter of a DV10, as the solenoid position is not as the original bukh.

Our New Zealand boat has a Bukh DV20. From the time we purchased her the engine had to be stopped on the decompressors-the solenoid was burnt out. Bosch one $300 NZ from the local auto electricians, from the Bukh agent in Auckland $800.

I removed it, cut the body off, discarded the burnt out windings but kept the piston and adjustable end fitted to the mounting plate. I pushed a one inch long piece of SS tube onto the residue of the piston guide, to make it longer and guide the piston. A two inch soft spring was found that would return the piston to rest, a 2.5 inch piece of 8mm studding was screwed to the top of the piston, above the spring. The studding was drilled to allow a bowden cable to pass through it, down the edge of the SS tube.
The base was drilled to allow the end of the cable to be attatched.

When the cable is pulled, the outer cable compresses the 8mm studding against the spring, pushing the piston in and shutting the fuel supply to the pump.

Cost just time-I had all the bits around the workshop at home in the UK.

Good God-I sound like Brent Swain............................................

That is really quite flattering.

I am a time seved Motor Vehicle Mechanic, but have picked up lots of ideas while Motorbike racing over the years.

My definition of an engineer :- a bloke who can make for a shilling what anyone can buy for a fiver.............................

Sadly there aren’t that many generic parts on a Bukh that I have managed to find, something that IMHO, Bukh uses shamelessly to hike the prices. That, and the retirement of Al and Norm make an otherwise solid engine less attractive.

Well, nothing special about the piston rings, just 85mm compression and slotted scrapers. Top ring chromed with a taper. all available from piston ring specialists at a quarter of the price.

When I pulled mine in bits last year, the rings were corroded into the grooves. Boiling water immersion loosened them up enough to get them off the pistons.

With everything cleaned up, measured and compared to the spec, all were within service limits so they were refitted. Biggest engine problem was rusty pits from salt water ingress on the valve seats and valves, but again, refacing fixed that. Expensive bits were the gaskets, from Bukh, and getting Turbo and Diesel to fit new nozzles to the injectors which were seriously leaking.

Started it up today, first pop, no smoke, nice and quiet plus much smoother running and idling than before. Thats after leaving it since April.

Its a good donk.

Very well built engine, really strong and understressed

I paid about £200 for one direct from bukh about a year ago - did a web search at the time, with no bargains found. Didn't think of checking amazon directly, but as the search didn't find them, maybe they didn't do it back then. Useful to know should I burn out another (which I hope not to!).

The thing is knowing the Bosch part number, which T. Noris have kindly provided us with!

I'm a fan of my dv48 but worried if it needs parts il be better getting shot of it, think I seen a thermostat was £90 ?
That and bulk are useless, took me weeks to get a turbo manifold and they sent the wrong gaskets for it, I have an expensive pile if gaskets and seals I forgot to return, hoping I never have to pull it to bits
Shame they don't share parts with anything else like kabota based units

I just wonder, BUKH is danish but build by Ruggerini (now Lambordini). Over here you get parts from the agriculture mechanic within 48 hours and for a normal price without the special boat margin.
Ruggerini used to be the largest OEM diesel manufacture in Europe. Lambordini (bought Ruggerini) still sells all the parts.

Even £80 seems like a high price to pay for a small coil of wire that's exactly like the one you've known to fail.....

lol.
Bukh is somewhere in the expensive scale between Lamborghini and Lombardini.

I'm not sure where Lambordini fits.
