Anyone have a workshop manual for a DV24 that they no longer need or perhaps would be prepared to part with for a few days? (Loan basis)

On a similiar thread I have the manual for a DV36/48 if anyone needs one.

I was hoping some kind forumite might just have a copy - I have searched the 'net and sofar have not found a manual for a DV24 although I do have the manual for the 36/48.

I have access to a manual for a DV20 which I am believe is basically the same engine. I cannot send it as its needed here, but could probably copy specific diagrams or info to you of you are stuck. But you would need to check how the 24 varies (I think the difference is in the pistons/bores to uprate it)

I bough a manual for a Bukh DV20 recently from www.bukh.co.uk (around £20), who were very helpfull. I tried to call them recently they are closed until sometime in January. Presumably they will be able to supply a DV24 manual also.

ps. Does anybody know if there is some secret to bleeding the fuel on a DV20 enbgine - I've followed the instructions (open bleed screw near fuel filter, and pump the little manual level on the lift pump). I've had no success despite pumping away for nearly 20 minutes - it seems like there is not suction happening for most of the stroke, only at the very bottom of the stroke.
I assume it should be reasonably easy to pump the fuel, so something must be wrong with the pump? (ps. the tank is full ok!)

Hi!

I suspect that the position of the cam driving the fuel lift pump is in the wrong position. Turn the engine over (by hand) one revolution, and try pumping the lift pump again. If it still doesn't 'feel' as if it's properly pumping, turn engine another rev. It will be quire clear when the cam is in the best place i.e. clear of the lift pump arm, allowing a full stroke to be made.

Incidentally, I never have to loosen the fuel pump screw on my Bukh 20. It is normally sufficient to ease the furlpipe/injector connections until fuel flows clear of bubbles, tighten, then start engine!!

I agree the pump lever has probably been lifted by the operating cam, leaving you no actual pumping movement. (The lever will return the full distance but not do anything)

Turn the engine through one complete revolution and try again. It should not take more than 2 - 3 minutes. If it does theres something wrong - leaky fuel line, or a problem with the pump itself, such as split diaphragm or sticky valves, any of which can stop the engine dead anyway if not sorted.

Jerry & OldHarry, many thanks for the tip on turning the engine manually - this enabled the pump to get some pressure going (previously it was pretty much loose & doing nothing).

.... Oh and I needed to do one more thing - turn the fuel on ! ;-)
I had filled the tank, but didnt realise there was a fuel shut off in the cockpit locker - it ran the last time I started it (left it ran for a minute or so) - it must have been running on fumes.

every day's a school day!

Hi Aidan,

Some time back I had a good few fuel problems with a Bukh. Total fuel system dismantled to replace with spares and all fitted ok. Problem was as you have mentioned, trying to get fuel up to the injector using the LP pump and injector HP pump itself. Answer is - maybe not conventional as other readers might argue, is to get a can of easy start - be careful if you have not used it before - and to get the engine half firing on plus gas until fuel appears on the injector pipe. Saves your time, batteries, frustration etc. This will give you an answer in a few minutes if you have other problems downstream from the HP injector pump itself. Shouls all go well, bukh start at the flip of a key if everything else ok.
