I have an early 70's DV10 with the optional alternator fitted. However, the small belt form the pulley on the dynastart to the alternator needs replacing. Bukh UK could not help me as they have not been fitted since the mid 70's, can anyone recommend an alternative automotive belt?

if you have the old belt you may be better off looking for a pulley and bearing stockist in your area, yellow pages etc and take it too them, they should be able to sort a belt out the right lenght and profile, alternater belts are not always the correct profile',they should have a tool to measure the length of the old belt.
the same applies to most good motor factors,if in doubt get one slightly bigger and one sightly smaller as well, see which fits the best, explain the situation and they will usually take the ones that are no use back,
if the belt has broken then you are back to the old method "a piece of string with a knot in it"

Yes but be careful - they tend to cause a lot more wear on pressed steel or aluminium pulleys than reinforced rubber belts.

IMHO I would take the old belt into somewhere like Fenners and ask for a match or if the old belt is not available measure the length you need (you can use another (longer) belt and figure 8 it and chalk mark the outer length needed the measure between the chalk marks.

I bought a belt for my BUKH DV10 from:

Mountain Power Transmission Engineers Unit H8 Haybridge Business Centre Godstone Surrey RH9 8JW Tel: 020 7407 4664

I took the old one in as a pattern and they produced a replacement, ex-stock if I remember correctly.
