Hi everyone, I am new here and have just bought a Bukh DV 20 diesel engine for my new couta boat here in OZ.
As it is still in Sydney and I bought it on ebay , I was wondering two things.
A Is it a left or right handed prop and what pitch and diameter?
B what are the diamentions ( measurements) for the engine mounts?
I hope to have the engine bearers set to the right size so when the engine comes off the truck, I will just have to drop it in .( in my dreams) it is a boat!
Any comments welcome. Regards, Nick.
PS I think I have a prop size limit of 11 inches.

You will find the dimensions on www.bukh.co.uk - for the current engines. Not sure how different the 20 is from the current 24.

With the prop, you will need to work out what size you need for your application. You will need also to know what reduction ratio you have in the gearbox - they are not all the same. Once you have the data you can input it into the Propcalc programme on www.castlemarine.co.uk 11" diameter sounds a very small prop for a 20hp engine.

My DV20 turns a 17x12 two blade prop. The Bukh might not be the best engine for you if you can only manage 11 inch diameter.

The DV24 is effectively an uprated 20, the block etc is the same. My 26 footer had a 16x14 prop, but you do need to know what your gear ratios are.

Wot we got

I attach the details from the receipt from Sillette for the prop we bought for our Westerly Fulmar (32ft) which had a Bukh 20. This replaced a (bent) 2 blade prop and had a lot more push.

Try again file was too big

I cannot get the pdf small enough to attach so the details are :-
16 X 13 RH E12 3 blade

My old DV20 (now replaced with a Beta with a feathering prop) used to have a RH fixed 3-blade 16x12. I cannot recall what the gearbox reduction was, but I think it was standard. Boat is a Vancouver 27, long-keel, displaces 4500kg.

I suspect that diameter isn't everthing: what about pitch and what about the addition or subtraction of a third blade?

Thanks to you all.
I have room for a thirteen inch prop Now the thing is how much pitch do I need?
The boat is a 17 ft open sailing fishing boat from the old days. It used to have a two cylinder Lister diesel but that was missing when I bought her. Hence the purchase of the bukh DV 20. The weight is an important factor as it adds to the ballast.
I think the gear box is the 2.5:1 type.
Any thoughts on pitch on a 13 inch prop guys?

prop size

I have now ordered a new Austral prop and the computed rating is 13x15.
Now just have to wait three days for it to appear. and of course for the wallet to slim down considerably.
I found I could have gone to 14 inch but they wanted an extra four hundred dollars for what is in fact 1/2 inch extra on each blade tip. No need to tell you all where I told them to keep that one!!!!
