Bukh Cylinder Head Skimming Resurface Measurements

Hi all , just a quick update on things, engine repairs have had to take a backseat for a while. But back on track now. Thanks for info on custom cylinder head gasket manufacturers , do you have any UK company names ? Have taken Skipper Stu's advice and measured piston/valve clearance with solder . I used 1.25mm dia solder to start with and found no contact marks. Next I tried a Plasticine blob on each pistons valve cut out re fitted the head and rockers, set tappet clearance and got a reading of 2.09mm on the squashed Plasticine after turning engine over by hand. This is more than I imagined , so I am of at last to machine shop tomorrow to hopefully get the head skimmed.
 
If I was you as I know Bukh UK are useless to be blunt, try Marine Enterprises (Shaun brackstone) he will know how to get hold of Norman from Bukh who in Shauns words is the Guru on Bukh engines.

Cool eh? given that 1mm eguals 40 thou it gives a bit of meat to play with!

Hi Skipper Stu, thanks again for your advice , the head is now at a local engineering firm who were very interested in the old Bukh and reckoned that around 10 tho taken off would clean the surface up ready for refitting also they are going to recut the sealing grooves as well. Expect to collect this Friday. Will keep you informed of progress.
