Bukh cold start/electrics

Thanks Mike

I am going down on Sunday so will carry out that check as well as trying the new full spec. alarm unit. Also need to check wiring & glow plug on the cold start as the new relay from Bukh hasn't solved that non-working problem!!

As said, electrics and I dont get on :)

Down on the boat. New alarm fitted. It doesnt come on with ignition but does trigger in engine stop setting on ignition, so is getting 12v & working. Doesn't alarm on tickover, but as soon as revs increased and Alternator starts charging, the alarm starts sounding & stays on until engine switched off.Oil pressure sender reads OK. Looks to be prob with alt link. Any ideas what worth checking?

If you are certain all three inputs (temp/oil/alternator) are correct you need to check the circuit board. Have you checked the underneath (component side) for corrosion? You need to test each diode and resistor individually, though I'd be surprised if any were actually faulty. That diode-resistor circuit is quite sensitive to excess resistance and/or leakage due to corrosion.

Do you have the 6-pin multiplug in the harness from the panel .... another likely source of problems.

Finally, do not discard the idea that the panel may not have been correctly wired from new. It's almost impossible to cover every conceivable error during manufacturing test.

Thanks Vic. I'm not sure that the alternator connection is OK, tho I am pretty sure oil pressure & temp are alright. It doesn't seem to be remaining open circuit once alt charging light activates, so it is something to do with that. Time to get a leccy in I fear, as cold start glow plug also not resolved! Bit of a poor day all round:(
