Hi everyone

I bought a motor boat with two Bukh Dv48s. I have recently had a full service and the mechanic said that there were no anodes to replace.

I was not sure about this and wanted the groups advice. The logic I think the mechanic had was that it was fresh water cooled. I may have misunderstood him.

Anyway I have located what I think the bolt is for the anode. It is on the SBD side of the engine just behind the starter motor. I have the replacement anodes from Bukh.

Picture in the post.

How do I go about changing the anodes and how much damage could a novice /stupid mechanic do?

Also in the process of replacing starter motor have taken out and had fixed. Awaitng new unit which I can switch over but worried that i have to re do wiring or relays as motor was completely burnt out. Any tips would be helpful.

Thanks
Tim

Indirectly cooled engines do not need an anode. Is there one in your car? If this engine is made in a raw-water cooled version it may be that the anode fitting, if that is what it is, is for that. On the Bukh 10 and 20 the anode is on the aft end of the cylinder head.

Last two engines we have had were freshwater cooled and both needed an anode which helped stop corrosion of the heat exchanger stack (Beta 38 and Bukh 36). Your Bukh 48 is basically a 36 with a turbo. I have a manual if you need one, just send me a pm with your e mail address. On the Bukh, the anode is difficult to access as the heat exchanger obscures your view.
