Bukh 36 Impeller Extractor

I fear that this is not going to be the most helpful answer. I was faced with exactly the same problem with my BUKH DV 36 and purchased (for £70) a 2 legged puller from the local chandler. This was after several hours of failure using pliers etc. It worked first time in about 5 minutes, the point is that any small 2 legged puller tool with a hook on the legs will do the job. I cannot find a similar product on Google, however, I get my parts from http://www.twmarine.co.uk/ who are fantastically helpful over the phone. Give them a call if you get no joy elsewhere. I keep my extractor on the boat so cannot even provide a picture at the moment. The chandler was http://www.devonchandlery.co.uk/ but I wandered in and asked in 2008, they may not have one now.

Mine is different, but the same. I'd be surprised if it didn't work. Mine consists of a couple of chunky conical adjusters which mean that one can use it in a very tight space which is all I have. This one has the essential small hooks on the end of the legs. I'd go for it because if it doesn't work you can always sell on e-bay. I consider the £70 I paid well worth it as the hours of frustration are burned into my memory (basically a sort of one handed press-up combined with doing everything left handed drove me almost mad).

Edit: That assumes I am sane in the first place and, quite frankly, I own a boat.

I believe that both Volvo and yanmar offer a puller based on a set screw which screws into the impeller and then has a jacking screw through the centre which pushes against the end of the shaft which seems an elegant and compact solution however it only works with a pre threaded impeller.

Volvo ones came in 3 sizes and cost approx 10-20 £

Yes, you can make one for some Yanmar's but I've been told that some replacement impellers lack the threaded end section. I bought a genuine Yanmar part as a spare and it did have the thread.

I designed a simple puller from scratch and found out later that Yanmar described the same thing in the Workshop manual. I'd only seen pics. of the usual ones with 2-3 legs.

Link to rough description of the puller.
