I have started to get a crack along the outer bend of the elbow, it weeps a little water at times. I know I shall need to renew it this winter but would like to do a temporary fix to keep it together for the next few weeks. I will will only be doing short runs with it say 3 or 4 hours max on about 6 or 7 occasions. I was thinking of using an exhaust wrap something like the JD weld exhaust wrap. What I want to prevent is a bit of the manifold blowing off. Any Ideas welcome.

If it has a crack that's weeping, I would not wait until winter. It's a job that can be done while afloat (although you may need to take the removed elbow home to separate the nut etc)

If the elbow goes, I don't think the exhaust bandage is going to stop a lot of sea water spraying all around your engine bay and electrics!

I would fix it now.

I had one break shortly after I bought my boat and having the exhaust water, mixed with soot, discharged into the bilge was no joke.

I now carry a new spare elbow plus exhaust stub plus backnut ready for a quick replacement if/when a crack appears.

By the way, there is a firm in Ireland that makes s/s elbows at what seems to be a reasonable price.

That listing is no longer active but, if you are interested, it might be possible to track the seller down.
