Jimi

That's a real bummer re Raytheon radar kit.

I'm going tomorrow with SWMBO and the Najad 380 is definitely on our list of 'must see'. If bored, I may just go wind up the Alabaster stand.

I've had a hankering for a Najad ever since we tied up against a 33 a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure that we could cope with owning a 380, but maybe not the repayments. The only problem that I have with them is that whenever I see one Rambling Syd Rumpo comes to mind, I'm not too sure that I would like to be "nagerred".

Hmmm - If they want financing then they should talk to a bank - not their customers - I wouldn't touch a deal like that with someone elses bargepole. If they go under you've commited 90% of the price and have no boat.

I did advise you to check radome compatability some time ago... Why don't you just get your RL72 upgraded to full Plus spec to get MARPA. Cost is £160 +VAT.

Re: Inside helm position

These days with remote autohelm controls an inside helm position just takes up space.

Basic boat is 670,000 Euro, then start adding all the bits and bobs, like 12,144 euros for in mast reefing (if you like that sort of thing), down to 871 for a electric bog. Just keep adding the bits in!

Dinna ken if they wid think much o' yer E-Boat an' laser trade in, but ah'm shure ye love them fine!

We can a' dream jist the same . . . .

Najad is Swedish for heaven, or if it is not it should be, helped a friend deliver his new 373 from Sweden to Troon this year, a superb yacht but the folk at Najad even better.so helpful and friendly, they made us feel part of the family. The 38 just replaced the 373. If I did not love my Albin Cirrus so much....and a big win on the lottery who knows????

Paul.

wanted the colour plotter as well .. I checked with Greeham Regis and they say it is not possible to upgrade the RL72 for Marpa + there's the £500 issue of the compass interface even if I could.

Re: Southerly 35RS

I believe the 35RS is the same hull and deck as the 110, but they have put the kitchen and bathroom downstairs, and the lounge and office upstairs so that when you are sitting in the lounge/diner, you can see out the windows. I liked the 2 storey front bedroom though.

I was a bit disappointed with the woodwork - didn't have quite the same quality of finish as the Swedish boats, and from the number of dings in it, I suspect American Cherry isn't as hard as teak.

I liked the Sunbeam 39 and the Maxi 1050. Does anyone know how the Sunbeams sail?

Raymarine

Can't see point of C series Jimi. They look swisher than the RL80 and RL70 displays, and nicely landscape not portrait, but there's no hsb2 network, so you can't add screens, so a bit useless surely? (AFAIK)

The raymarine marpa run by soft keys is excellent though

Had a look at the Malo 39 and the Najad 380. Malo has a bit of a pokey aft quarter cabin, prefer the Najad layout. Najad works out around 230k all-in, so we went to the Oyster used boat show and SWMBO has seriouly fallen for a 435 with decent aft cabin and island double bunk.

Jury still out on centre cockpits for me, especially on smaller boats. The aft cabin and main saloon seem very cramped on anything less than about 45 feet.

I did really like the used 435 and we're currently looking at whether this may be the way to go for us...
