Bug in the machine

As a recent convert to diesel I have never suffered problems with 'the bug'. Thing is that my starboard engine is not behaving as it should. Can anyone advise on symtoms of diesel bug in fuel.

I'm running twin AD41's. Port engine runs cleanly and revs well up to maximum. Starboard engine revs OK'ish up to about 2000, runs clean with no smoke, and then takes an age to get up to maximum. If I drop off port engine then stb struggles to maintain revs and power reduces. I've had turbo's and intercoolers checked and I think the diesel pumps OK as well. Port and stb are running off seperate tanks and both were filled at the same time from the same pump.

Any ideas anybody. Thanks in advance
Kevin

Get a small thin jar on the end of a bent stick, open up the inspection hatch on the tank dip the jar all the way to the bottom and lift it slowly, tip the contents into another clean clear jar and tell me what it looks like.

Try running both engines from the port tank and see if the symptoms disappear and follow LongJohn's advice on the starboard filter especially.

Has the problem always been there, or just started, if always , might be the wrong prop or prop damage

good luck

Exactly the symptoms I had last year with a pair of AD31B's from a single tank. Prefilters both a bit manky, but one engine filter totally clogged. Black yuck. Dosed with Starbrite biocide. Horribly eggy smell, but power OK. Now using Soltron, no smell, no smoke, feels a bit nippier, but may be down to using fresh fuel (we've put 1400 litres or so through this summer)...

I would but the boats a thousand miles away! Still I've got an engineer on it now and once we both sort out what were saying (he's French) then I'm sure we'll get it sorted. I'll let you know. Boats coming back to Shamrock Quay once sorted as I've just bought is and this was picked up on it when surveyed.

Cheers for input.

Sounds like a fuel starvation problem to me, change pre filters and engine filter, take top off the priming pump, clean out gauze filter, also check banjo bolts on pump for air leaks and all other fuel pipe unions, also check air filters for dirt, check banjo bolts they are marked in and outlet make sure this is correct as outlet has smaller hole to pressurise injection pump.

Paul,
Thanks for input. My first reaction was the same as you so we've done all that you have suggested and now its down to a sea trial to see effects. Unfortunately the boats in S of france so I'm relying on someone else for the most part to do the work. However, its due to come back this week to Blighty so if not sorted over there I get it done here (and pay for the privalage).
Thanks

Obviously running through all the advice given with the broker I bought boat from in S of France. Theres a lot more to this story than I've got time to write about here. Just say that there are two brokers sitting on a fat wedge of cash and me without a boat going at all well in the South of France waiting to get it back here!!

Thanks
