Special peg at the chippie for hanging up the Sam Browne fluorescent belts? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was wondering if anyone had gone in there in a boat /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

A terrifying place to take a yacht in my opinion. I'm pretty bold and used to not having any all tide places to go, but the combination of the way the swell hits the beach and the fact that you basically dry out on the beach has always put me off the place. The canal I know nothing about, but it never looks very well used. There are days when there is no swell, but they are few and far between. Remember, there is less continental shelf there than further north and it faces pretty much due west. Having said all that, the boats which live on the beach seem to be OK so I could just be scared. :-)
Somewhere I have always fancied, however, is Boscastle. The entrance, from the shore, is scary as hell, but I think it would be a fun place to have been to.

you can get a reasonably sized sea going boat in, but at high tide -ish only.

Google shows that the entrance does, yes, need committment and courage.

I went there last year, by car. They were working on the gates and there was no water from the lock up to the road bridge.
I recall being told the gate cost a lot to open but if a group of boats arrive together they can split the cost.

Boscastle is spectacular - the island hides the entrance from seaward, so it seems like you are heading straight for the cliffs. Once inside it's fine (unless it rains heavily /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif )
