Buckler Ketch on ebay

I'm in the same moorings as the Buckler on eBay. She looks well appointed, but, for me, her striking appearance is a little too much like a marine hearse in my view. However, with its "pirate ship" appearance, she could be an awful lot of fun for people with young children.

Can we pit it against this daysailer please? :D

Is that the gaff cutter from the plans on the John Welsford site?

I would love to see one live, so far I have only seen the plans.

I think that's the whole point.

A small, low priced family boat with relatively large accom in 2 seperate cabins & with a deep safe & sprayfree cockpit in the centre where sea motion is at a minimum. Add in the large "sundeck areas" when at anchor & you have a boat designed for pottering in estuaries & sheltered water with the whole family.

No-one would consider it a sleek passage maker, especially with a Watermota Shrimp & a 1 gall fuel tank, the range must be only 20-30 miles, much less if into a headwind!!

I always smile when I see one - it's that sort of fun boat & cheers me up.

Come on a one gallon tank will keep you lawnmowering all day long :D

20-30 miles = 6-7 hours at 4-5kts (max possible hull speed) = all day long. But more like 10-15 miles in a chop or headwind. My range is around 300 miles of motoring, what's yours?

About 1200 miles in good conditions at 4-5 knots. Less at 7.5 knots which is maximum speed in neutral conditions.

the engine changed

Hi all

I agree with all that has been said, but be aware that what you are discussing is the Mk I Buckler.

The Mk II Buckler, which was reviewed in Practical Boat Owner in 1976, had a Petter Mini 6 engine, I imagine due to squeals from Mk I owners.

The review didn't say what the fuel capacity was.
