No its not rhyming slang. My Enfield outdrive rides up in reverse. I've checked the mechanism that secures the drive in reverse and one of the pins has dropped out of the spring loaded bracket/latch. HOWEVER, even when I bodge a replacement the mechanism doesn't seem to hold the spring loaded latch securely enough to stop the whole lot disengaging from the securing bar. Any ideas to remedy my problems before I lash the whole lot together.

Many thanks,

Jason.

In reverse a pin should protrude from the Leg which locks the mechanism in place, the pin is retracted in forward so that the leg can kick up if you hit an obstruction.
If it locks in forward and not reverse you've got the wrong gear change mechanism for the rotation of the prop.
I have a repair manual, if you're interested I could copy it for you.

Brian,

The pin does operate as it should however it doesn't stop the spring loaded latch (for want of a better description) from lifting and disengaging the leg from its stop. I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed since everything appears to operate correctly. The latch just doesn't grip. Thanks for the offer of the manual but I think you already sent me one some time ago! Many thanks for that.

Jason.
