Hi,

I just bought a small Scand 21 where the Temp light on the instrument panel turns on a couple of minutes after running the engine.
The cooling seems to be working fine and I don't get an acustic alarm together with the Temp light turning on, is there anyone that can shed some light on what might be the issue here?
Also, there is no acoustic alarm when i start up the engine, should there be?

If the temperature warning light comes on but the engine temperature is not high ( check with an infra red thermometer) the most likely cause is a defective sensor.

There may or may not be an acoustic alarm depending upon age and control panel fitted. I believe the panel with an acoustic alarm was introduced around 1977

If there is an alarm sounder but it is not working it could be faulty or the diode plate which links it to the sensors and warning lights might be defective

Google will find a variety of manuals including

The alarm should activate when turning the ignition to on position and then turn off when starting the motor. I had a problem on my DV 20 where the sensor was not grounding to the engine properly due to build up of salt and rust around the thermostat housing and threads ,causing the alarm to be muted or intermittent. Gave it a good clean which solved it.
