BSP pipe sizes.

No, for several reasons.

The first is that no part of a 3/8 BSP thread is actually 3/8ths of an inch in diameter. The name comes from the inner diameter of malleable-iron Victorian gas pipe that would have that thread cut on the outside, so you can't use it for anything sensible. Nowadays the 3/8, 1.5, etc are officially just names and the actual corresponding sizes are specified in millimetres in a table, which you can look up by googling if you need to know.

The second reason is that you can't just jam a bit of tube into a threaded fitting and expect anything useful to happen! If you have to use copper tube then a compression fitting is probably sensible, though there are other possibilities. Either a separate fitting with a thread to screw into the valve, or you might find a valve with compression fittings built in.

Now I'm even more puzzled. Are you trying to screw onto a threaded fitting or connect to copper tube?

Either way, the fitting you linked to is UNF, not BSP.

Use 3/8" copper OD to BSP thread to suit your ball valve, e.g. 1/4", "Stud fittings". 3/8" OD pipe will be about or just over 1/4" ID.

I'm still not clear.

I have a run of 3/8ths OD copper pipe from wing tanks to main tanks and want a compression fitting ball valve to fit along that run of pipe so I can open it and dump the contents of the wing tank into the main tank when I want to.

So, I need a ball valve that will fit in the middle of a run of 3/8ths OD copper pipe.

2 x stud fitting 3/8" pipe to 3/8" BSPM or BSPTM
1 x Ball Vv 3/8" with female ports

Likely got these in my workshop if you can wait until Friday.

Why didn't you say so then, instead of muddying the water with BSP threads and tank fittings?

You need one of these: http://www.asap-supplies.com/foot-mounted-gas-compression-ball-valve-307033

You need one of these: http://www.asap-supplies.com/foot-m...r use with Diesel? Or am I missing the point!

I would be interested to know how you have established the seals in the Bullfinch Gas valve are also suitable for use with Diesel? Or am I missing the point!

Read the product description, it says suitable for diesel, although I would still use the lever ball valve originally shown.

Point taken I read the BSI No. which only refers to Gas. Delved a bit deeper and as you say body and seals OK.

Excuse me Sub, that wasn't my post!

Sorry PCUK, haven't used the Quote feature much before. Now discovered how it happened, all good for the learning curve!
