Bruising, mainly of women. I was sitting in a friends.....

Re: Bruising, mainly of women. I was sitting in a friends.....

I'm not actually calling you clumsy; it was only a supposition deduced from previous posts. You will have to blame the usual suspects for any erroneous conclusions drawn by others.

Re: Bruising, mainly of women. I was sitting in a friends.....

It is because woman don't watch what they are doing.

Some every day shoreside examples for a start. Looking for something in handbag, they never look in the bag whilst scrummuging around and normally in full motor mouth mode as well. Watch a woman plugging in the end of a car seat belt - they never look, just fiddle around until they eventually find it (often fussing with hair in the mirror and gabbing at the same time).

So on a boat where there are lots of trippy, jammy and cutty bits they - well there you go, they never see them so always in endless trouble. Examples, winches, lots of fingers caught cos never watch what they are doing. Closing hatches, always looking back over their shoulder gabbing or spying something else 'til finger jambed. Waving over excitedly to girlfriend on boat going by so's trip over or stub toes on any one of the many things on deck. Endless examples seen on any short sail. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I take exception to that, Ship's cat. The women you go around with might be like that, but don't try to generalise to all women. Mind you, I still get bruised, but not for those reasons.

(Actually it's the different physiology, sub-cutaneous fat and so on, but I suspect mention of fat will get you/me into even more trouble - that's why I stick with the hairy leg argument.)

Ahh! I think you are on to something here.... Women take great pride in their supposed ability to multitask but maybe this is proof that it has a negative effect on the task in hand. I don't think i'd be very good at parking cars if I was thinking about what to cook tonight, 'does my makeup look ok' and 'Must tell sheila what i've heard about that hussy down the road' while trying to do it.
btw, my SWMBO doesn't bruise easily. But i think thats because her body has finally given up reacting to the regular bashings.

Re: Bruising, mainly of women. I was sitting in a friends.....

Women do have different types of skin to men. They have subcutaneous tissue (often called f*t) which is thicker than men. The only sad thing is that we loose the elasticity of our skin by loss of collagen at an earlier age than do men. But that probably doesn't have anything to do with this problem. Like AliM, I am sticking with the lack-of-hair theory as the most plausible.

As for the brave words about downtrodden SWMBOs, well I just hope for your sakes, the relevant ladies don't find out what you have said about them. Or they won't get your clothes out, or find your socks, or put your food infront of you.

Ha ha, that would sort you lot out!

Re: Bruising, mainly of women. I was sitting in a friends.....

SWMBO claims that she is more accident prone at regular, monthly intervals. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I wouldn't know much about that but do any of you ladies find a cyclical nature to your accidents? (and I don't mean falling of your bike /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif)

I know for a fact that wimmin don't heal as fast as men. I shredded a finger in a strimmer, almost down to bone. SWMBO had a few cuts from a pet bunny. My finger healed in weeks,. Swmbo still has scars from superficial cuts

Me and my wife are the same age and I have developed crocodile skin on my hands and arms yet she is still smooth.
She does bruise enormously though. If she sits down with a bump (falls over) the bruises take a day or two to appear but are worth the wait. Glorious technicolour.
On the subcutaneous fat angle. I have honed down legs (skinny) and my shins do resemble a battleground.

Interesting combination Becky "Dental Surgeon & psychotherapist" In your psychotherapist role do you have an opinion on why women whilst driving, as a rule, cannot speak to a front seat passenger without physically turning their head and looking at them. I, and most men I know, can carry on a conversation whilst concentrating on the road ahead. Is this our one area of multi-tasking?
