I ripped all the skin off the palm of my hand by grabbing the shroud on my way into the river while doing a spinnaker gybe. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
 
Mainly the odd sore head from either excessive celebration at the end of a passage.... or from inadvertant connection with the boom...... incidently, I just saw one of the booms that I headbutted over 15 years ago while 3 miles off Guernsey at 2:30 in the morning advertised in the back of this months YM.....a rather lovely She 36 called Sherpa..... I really liked that boat.....
 
Pulled a muscle laughing when wife insisted on taking rubbish ashore late one evening on the quayside in Hvar (the place for a moonlit promenade for all the beautiful people in Croatia), misjudged the distance from boat to quay and toppled in slow motion backwards into the harbour. She had to be rescued by passers by as I was incapacitated.
 
me too? It never hurts at the time and I never usually notice for another 2 days???

Also had a mouthful of mainsheet in September last year when shorthanded racing. I hit the deck, literally, quite hard and skipper tried to make me go down below as we were doing well and didnt want me in the way. Personally I think he was squeamish and didnt like the sight of blood!
 
Didn't happen to me but 20yrs ago when I was teaching dinghy sailing, we had a guy turn up who was a little on the large side for a topper but insisted on sailing one rather than a bigger boat. He was also bald. One gybe later and one of the loops riveted to the bottom of the boom had cut a nice furrow right across his head - lots of blood and embarassment as everyone had told him to try something bigger.

He's quite right to send you below. Blood makes the cockpit all slippery.
 
Broken arm from falling down hatch sailing on the Broads
Broken nose from crash gybe doing the Lord Birkett on Ullswater, helm pulled me out the lake & started yelling to get back in the race. We didn't half get some strange looks when we got back to the clubhouse! Me being covered in blood!
Numerous bruises & cuts from just being anywhere near a boat
 
Battered kidneys from gybes while racing a Fin - I never could get down into the hull quick enough, low enough.
Fireball trapeze once deposited me, legs apart, onto the forestay as we nosedived into a wave. You probably have enough information on that now.

Snap re p***ed and companionway, broke a couple of ribs. Also numerous furrows in scalp from wind genny previous owner had mounted too low...

A few years ago, one of my crew had an irritating problem develop, and asked for a private word with me, to explain the problem, which he did. I declined to examine him, we were halfway to Cherbourg, W5 and springs. He went to docs next day in France. Applied ointment. At end of trip he travelled home from Lorient. In hospital next day, circumcision. I now carry the Ship Captain's Medical Guide, and many pairs of surgical gloves...To be fair, he does a great job of telling the story. And no, not STD!
 
I seem to have avoided bruises but I am forever stubbing toes on anything that may be attached to the deck.Learned my lesson always wear boat shoes now.
