I've driven about half of their motorways and stopped in Brussels (too often), Ostend, Zeebrugee, Nieuport, (Ostend and Nieuport by boat) Ghent (University City quite pretty), Antwerp (heavy industrial city). I regret to say that I am not particularly moved to return.
But not Brugge Tillergirl I see! although I will agree with you that the land is flat and boring, but I did find however that thier driving was far better than ours at 130 km!
I worked there and loved their sense of dogged quiet determination with a wry dry sense of humour. Wicked stuff. They dislike the Cloggies because they buy the property in Belgium ( its really much cheaper than Holland), and mock the French by not taking much notice of them. Like it, and its a hop to get into Luxembourg for a break. Under rated if you ask me.
My mate Geert did teach me ten famous Belgians, which is how I win money in drunken competitions.
Blankenberge YC always came over to Ramsgate for a good party every year too, bringing food, beer and music. Top Party Goers.

Sorry, misunderstsanding T_S. I have 14 nephews and nieces and enjoy taking them all to places anew. Brugge would be lovely and thanks for the suggestion, just that it won't be this week and her homework needs to be in by Friday.
I can remember the church, in the square, and some other old buildings. will have to find all the old lit! I do have some dv footage that I took we had a nice day there on our way back from Vienna, Saltsburgh, Zwitzerland, we went on the boat tour, but due to old age my minds gone blank...I can remember they had a nice underground car park for me disco! Oh! there is a comentary on the vid, or was that in Amsterdam, Where's me zimmer gone?

Rolling, rolling, rolling keep them doggies moving!
Where’s me chuck wagon gone?
You will note that I never got the nice work trips - its the problem with being the Deputy. 'Oh dear, I've got to go to Hong Kong but it clashes with this meeting in Brussels, could you go? The worst even was 'Oh dear, I've got to go an important meeting in Barbados but we need someone to go to Kirghizia" Look it up, its nowhere. Decent planes go no nearer that Kazakhstan "But don't worry, they'll collect you at the border in a half track. We buy you some new cold weather clothing" "Why?" "Cos its minus 20 below at lunch time this time of year" Fortunately I got seriously ill and couldn't go!
I agree with the motorways and their driving - arne't they the last Western European country to introduce a driving test (Belgium I mean)? Which might be telling us something. But I have to report that I pulled over at 110 as I neared Ghent to be past by a Ferrari which zoomed up behind at the most enormous speed I've ever seen to see the driver ready a newspaper spread across the steering wheel as he passed!
I got trapped in Belgium for a whole day on their motorways during those fuel strikes five or so years ago. Not the best time I've ever spent.
Its a pity you don't have children of your own tome, although I can see that you are enoying and loving all your nieces and nephews
My two lads are now at the ages of 22 and 20! the yearly trip to festive Brugge still takes place though, along with other members of our family Sister & Brother-in-law, nieces, nephew and of course to round things up the Mother-in-law!.
I would have thought by now after all the times we have been there I would have got a tad tired of it, but I think its the children that really round off the day as they love the place and never seem to get bored, (Just the trip home when they fall asleep!) Anyway good luck with encouraging your nieces homework and thanks for your last post.
Seems that with your career you miss the nice places tillergirl, shame really with the distance you travel!
What amazes me about the Belgium main roads is that they can handle two lanes efficiently, where as in the UK we have to have four lanes now on the M25 and UK drivers still drive at 60 mph in the middle and outside lanes!
