Thinking of leaving Sacha in Bruces yard in Faro for the winter. Are here any other options in the Algarve? Or any ideas?

In Bruce's ,you are on hardstanding, in a secure cradle. Plenty space to work on the boat yourself(that is allowed). Also handy for train ,bus , airport and supermarkets.
Two yards at Olhao,no firs hand knowledge ,but look very crowded, little space to work.
Two options at Portimao/ Ferragudo.
Two yards at Vila Real at mouth of Guadiana. Working on your own boat (external) not allowed, but I think you can live on board.
Sopramar at Lagos, no details.
Personally,I.d stick with Bruce.

Ok, looks like the only show in town! Thanks for the info, should be there in a couple of days, stopping in Lagos on the way so will inquire there as well. Where is good to park her in a marina next year whilst deciding where to move to next July August?

I agree with Ludd.

If you are not going to be there it is pointless going for anything other than Bruce's. Sopromar in Lagos handy for a few 'distractions' but it is expensive. The only other option may be the new(ish) place in Portimao. Don't know the name but it is on the starboard hand before you get to the main yard.

Where to park? Hmm, anything beyond 15 June will be eye-watering. I don't know of any cheap marina option on the Algarve. Before 15 June there are all the marinas to consider; simply a balance between cost and convenience IMO.

If you are around Lagos mid-Sep onwards I will show you the sights.

Plan to park it next weekish, got to be back in UK for SWMBO work after that. So Bruces yard, then splash her next year, use a marina till we eye watering time, then La Linea till the 6 week July Aug break where we make a dash for Greece. Best about Bruces I suppose is that we can live on her and do maintenance

If you're not going to be on board, one difference between Bruces and Ria Formosa Boatyard at Olhao is cost, Olhao being cheaper without daily elec charge, which is included in Bruce's price. Olhao has workshops which are available and on-site workers/welders etc, Bruce doesn't, it's a DIY yard. Bruce has well made cradles and working space around boats whereas Olhao is cramped and IIRC uses props. We always use Bruce's.

There are no cheap marinas on the Algarve, Ayamonte just over the border on the Guadiana is cheaper. Alternative is to rent a mooring in the pool just off Faro, that's where we are now, look us up if you need help.

Thanks to all for the good info, will be there in a couple of days, will give Graham a call on 16

We were looking to do the same a Skipper_STU and leave the boat at Bruces. I emailed them recently to ask what sort of notice is required. They replied very quickly, and said about a week. It looks like a tricky entrance but I gather they will come out to meet you. I like the fact that they also strap the boat to the floor!
So That's where I intend to leave the boat while we decide what to do next

Another vote for Bruces. The only problem is the tidal window and the reality that you really do need them to guide you for the last bit as it is not well marked. They are very slick and get you onto your spot very fast. When we were there they didn't take plastic but you could arrange online transfers in their office if needed. Tie downs are relatively new, since the gales blew the roof of Faro airport. Plenty of people live aboard there so there will be plenty of advice about where to get local work done.

The channel to Bruce's is not to be attempted alone for the first time and is narrow and shallow in places so, as emnick says, either Bruce or Martim will come out to lead boats in. The mud flats are covered at high water and even getting to the moorings after buoy 21 anchorage is tricky so I would suggest it's best to do that bit at half tide or lower.

Silly question really but when does the "season" start next year?ie splash and then find somewhere like La Linea or elsewhere whilst we wait for time off so we can carry on to Greece.
